Dew in the Land
In places where there is not much rain, the dew may play an important part in watering the land. Most of the areas with heavy dews are on the coast. The moisture comes in from the Mediterranean during the summer days, then falls to the ground as dew when it is cooled at night.
Some coastal areas may have dew on 200 nights each year, and it can give them as much as a quarter of their moisture. So its not difficult to see why the dew plays so large a part in the in the life of Bible peoples. Elijah the prophet, for example, predicting drought, says 'there will be no dew or rain' (1 Kings 17:1).
